Squirrels (4-6 years)

Wild about the Great Outdoors

Meeting Time: Tuesdays 5pm – 6pm

Squirrels are young people aged 4 to 6 who:

  • Have fun, explore, and make new friends
  • Try new activities and learn about the world around them
  • Begin their journey as part of the global Scout family
  • Take part in imaginative play and outdoor adventures
  • Share, care, and work together as a team

Every week, Squirrels meet in small groups to take part in exciting, fun-filled activities. With the guidance of their Leaders and helpers, Squirrels enjoy hands-on learning and play in a safe and welcoming environment, developing early skills that will last a lifetime.

Squirrels is all about having fun, making friends, and taking the first steps into Scouting! It’s a world of adventure, creativity, and curiosity, where every day is a new chance to learn and explore.

Whether it’s a nature walk, a scavenger hunt, or exploring your local park, Squirrels are always ready to get outdoors and discover the wonders of nature. Every adventure is about curiosity and excitement, making new discoveries, and learning how to enjoy the world around them.

Squirrels love to play! Through games, songs, and storytelling, they learn important lessons about friendship, sharing, and working as a team. Each activity helps them develop new skills, from fine motor skills to social confidence, all while having a fantastic time with their new friends.

Squirrels may be small, but they can still make a big difference! Through simple acts of kindness and teamwork, they start to understand the importance of helping others. Whether it’s making cards for someone special, collecting donations for a charity, or looking after the environment, Squirrels begin their journey of caring for others and their community.

Squirrel Dreys are made up of small groups of young people, aged 4 to 6, led by adult Squirrel Leaders and helpers. A Drey is a fun and nurturing space where Squirrels learn through play, guided by leaders who ensure that each child is included and encouraged every step of the way.

Squirrels are also part of the wider Scout family, learning to embrace the values of Scouting in their own unique way. As they grow and develop, they will eventually move up to Beavers at age 6, where the adventure continues.
